April 30th – update Asia

Today is an important anniversary date in American involvement in Asia; rather than offer any commentary I would like to offer instead two pictures taken 35 years apart.

Anniversary of Vietnam war

A North Vietnamese tank rolls through the gate of the Presidential Palace in Saigon on April 30, 1975, signifying the fall of South Vietnam. The war ended that day with the fall of Saigon, now known as Ho Chi Minh City.

What a difference that 35 years made. Just think what other sites could soon be lavish vacation spots.

Excellent Commentary…and amazing to see the difference of 35 years to the day. I have family friends, a few who were there those last days, both as diplomates and as military…I forwarded your post. Their response was both Shock and Amazement.

It seems we live in cycles, chapters that cycles through our lives, some chapters change us forever. The French didn’t do a great job, nether did the Americans, time will tell if the Casino’s will do better. Who knows they may just find the silver lining. It will be interesting to see how the Vietnamese adjust, Where have all the Communist gone? I would suspect they wear suits and ties and practice a new religion, money! They are learning the virtues of being good capitalists.

    Thanks for sharing…rite
