New and Tall – and an update – in LV there is a casino

It took a few days of reading reviews everywhere I could find one, but I did finally find some mention of a casino in the Cosmopolitan  Both the Las Vegas Review-Journal and the Las Vegas Sun had articles that mentioned the casino – it has 100,000 square feet of gaming, no mention of the number of tables or slot machines.  But, there are slot machines, at least some of which can be seen from outside and some from other passageways,  I am relieved.  The Sun went further to say the casino felt very modern and fit perfectly into the hip atmosphere of the rest of the property.  There was even a mention of nickel slot machines suggesting that seeing a “cheap” slot machine helped those who were overwhelmed by the expense of everything else that was encouraging.

So that is the update and now the new and tall – but it is not from Las Vegas or indeed any city in the Untied States.  The Zifeng Tower opened in Nanjing, China. It is the second tallest building in China; China now has six of the ten tallest buildings in the world.  However, the Zeiffel Tower has no casino, yet.  China’s economy is growing and expanding so quickly and into every segment of the economy that one suspects mainland casinos might not be such a stretch of the imagination at some point in time.   There is no point to mentioning a building in China, except to illustrate that the world’s economy is changing very quickly and the United States is no longer the center economic gravity – except as the saying goes “in our own minds.” As with most of my comments on change/evolution, this is just one more way of suggesting that we spend more time planning for a dramatically different future and not simply projecting the present – or worse, the past – into the future.
