The leader of the cranes speaks out on group sex

Vladimir Putin is a strange man; well maybe not a strange man, but strange as the leader of a major world power.  Putin seems to love the camera, but not the microphone.  If you are interested and willing to take the time you can see him fishing, hunting, swimming, wrestling and kissing girls; however, not kissing his wife, the camera can never seem to find her.  You can see him dressed for a Russian winter and see him nearly naked riding a horse or on the beach.  A man’s man, a soldier, a warrior, an athlete and just may be a total wacko.  You will not find many speeches or interviews were he is seriously talking about Russian policy or his vision for Russia; he is a master of cliches and saying nothing while his lips continue to move.

There are two recent photo opportunities that point out just how strange he is; in one Putin is dressed to resemble a crane, riding in a glider leading a small group of cranes on a training flight – poor birds were raised in captivity and don’t know how to migrate – who else to teach them, but the leader of the Russian people, Vladimir Putin?  In the other he is sitting in the center of a very bare and empty stage during a short interview.  Putin is talking about group sex, the meaning of pussy, as in Pussy Riot and how group sex is good for you, but illegal if you post the pictures of your frolic on YouTube.  He used that example to illustrate that the girls of Pussy Riot were using obscene and illegal terms – pussy – and doing obscene and illegal things and posting them online.  Join him in a romp in the hay in the Kremlin and all is well, post it online and you go to jail.

How does he get away with being so strange?  Whenever a religious fundamentalist leader speaks out and condemns impure behavior, we are shocked and taken aback.  It seems to undermine democracy, human freedom and basic human rights – but old Vladimir just keeps on being Vladimir and hardly raises an eyebrow.  Most of what Putin says and does rarely makes the news in the west, except the wired section of the Huntington Press; he is only important it seems when supporting Iran or Syria.  The recent Russian election did get coverage here, but only in a condescending way, pointing out that Russians really don’t understand democracy.  Okay, we did see the protests, but not much more.

In the long run and for the stability of the planet, I think his opinions on group sex and migrating cranes is much more significant that a few dissident protestors.  Is he sane, rational or stable?  Are we not more at risk from Putin than from Saddam Hussein, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad or Hu Jintao?  We in the west have had some scary politicians and leaders, but none I think that could compare with Putin.

How about Romney and/or the Bush cabal? Oh, that’s right, the two are redundant…

I would put Israel’s hawkish leader as more dangerous than Putin.

Yep, checked the time stamp; your Putin poke is a ripple effect from your boys being taken down by a team who just added $200M to their payroll…

I would not put an Israel leader ahead of Putin. And Rex, Putin was in the can before the Giants game was played.
